When Kids Talk, Kids Listen
Onsite Meet-ups for Kids in 6th through 8th graders
KidsTalk is an onsite meet-up promoting mutual support and the sharing of insights and experiences of kids for kids. KidsTalk is a program of the family-centered clinical practice of Melissa Sornik, LCSW PLLC and was created to provide tweens an opportunity to make connections as they manage this transitional developmental stage.
The practice believes that our middle-schoolers are both resilient and creative. They are able to, with mutual support, understand and adapt to changing social norms, manage the impacts of social media, and foster healthy peer relationships. They have thoughts, ideas and experiences to share with each other and TDC provides a safe, welcoming and neutral space for them to connect.
KidsTalk meet-ups will be facilitated by a social worker/supervised social work intern and supported by older teen mentors. All KidsTalk group members will be given an opportunity to participate comfortably in discussions that are meaningful, productive and positive. Topics will be participant-centered and will include sharing experiences, advice, recommendations and perspectives about family, school and peers — identity, managing self-care, discovering, developing and sharing new hobbies and interests, navigating interactions and relationships with parents, siblings and peers. KidsTalk meet-ups will promote creative problem-solving, kid-driven topics, and general skills for building and maintaining social connections and relationships through talk, games and activities.
This group meets on alternating Saturdays from noon - 1:15 pm at 268 Sea Cliff Avenue in Sea Cliff
