Welcome to Smart Practice Network’s Body Doubling Workspace NYC: a space that supports teens and young adults with executive functioning challenges in meeting their academic organizational goals.
Body Doubling is not a one-on-one executive functioning approach, but a next step in independent organizational skill development and a complementary option to other supports, such as executive functioning coaching.
What exactly is Body Doubling?
Body doubling is a technique for individuals with executive functioning challenges. It helps signal the brain that it is time to focus and get work done and is a tool for project initiation and completion by providing an "accountability partner,” to support productivity. Having another person in a shared physical space can help support underdeveloped skills and promote productivity.
How is Body Doubling Structured?
Each body doubling group is led by a facilitator who will support participants in setting goals for their time in the space. The facilitator will be present throughout the session time and will coordinate structured breaks so that participants can maintain focus and will provide a reflection at the end of each session to help close the space.
How does Body Doubling Support Planning and Time Management?
Body Doubling provides time to focus. Each session has a set, consistent time to focus and get things done. This kind of structure can help many who struggle with executive functioning challenges and may struggle to set aside that kind of time for themselves. Sessions can be used for any kind of work or project andtarget specific areas including initiation, development, or just completing projects on time without the draining experience of procrastination-related stress.
